The Mando Lutheran Primary and Day High School in Eastern Highlands’ Daulo district celebrated two milestone achievements in its endeavour towards enhancing the learning environment for the students.

The school community took Thursday off to celebrate the official opening of a 4-in-1 classroom and a new ablution block and signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for the relocation of the high school component.

The locals in numbers joined the school community led by the principal Bob Kamakore, alongside Asaroka Lutheran Church circuit president Ps Rasty Kiafore, to welcome the invited guests at the school, showing their commitment to the school for the education of their children.

The dignitaries included the Provincial Member of Parliament Simon Sia, Department of Lands finance assistant secretary Nigl Zerike, Goroka MP Aiye Tambua standing in for the Daulo MP Ekime Gorosahu, provincial education officials led by the director Wesley Albert, representatives of Rotary Club Australia and Water Steps and other stakeholders.

After speeches by the dignitaries stressing on the importance of partnership for  meaning progress in education and other sectors and the signing of the MoA for the relocation of the high school component, Mr Sia cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the school and the ablution block.

The school, staffed with 21 teachers, accommodates more than 600 students.

It was initially established as a community school during the colonial era and has transmitted to primary school.

The school was elevated to day high school five years ago and since then has been sharing the limited space with the primary school on a strip of land along the Highlands Highway in front and a ridge at the back.

Concerned with the safety of the students and the limited space of the school’s administration, together with the community, has been endeavouring for its relocation.

The community identified and let 14 hectares of land to the school, about a kilometer away from the highway.

This was followed by the Lutheran Church Council approving the relocation of the high school.

The development partners now pledge their commitment in the MoA towards relocating the high school to the 14 hectares of land released to the school from customary ownership.
