Four girls among the students to be removed
FIVE students from a school in New Ireland have been terminated after a video of the students sharing marijuana was circulated online.
The video filmed using TikTok ended the school year for the five students as Utu Secondary School in Kavieng terminated the students as per the School Disciplinary Committee‘s recommendations.
In a media statement, the school’s board of Governors and Administration said, “ The school administration was promptly alerted to the matter and conducted a thorough investigation.”
“The investigation identified four Grade 9 female students and one Grade 9 male student as being responsible for the actions, including the creation of the video. These students were immediately suspended, and the School Disciplinary Committee convened on Friday, May 16, 2025, to address the issue.”
The Disciplinary Committee unanimously recommended the termination of all five students based on the evidence provided in the statement.
Today, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the School Board of Governors met to specifically consider this serious matter.
The Board of Governors has unanimously voted to uphold the recommendation of the School Disciplinary Committee, resulting in the termination of the five students, making it effective.
The board states that drugs and alcohol have no place within its institution, and students found to be involved in the use, possession, or distribution of illegal substances will face the strictest disciplinary measures, including termination
