Opposition Leader and Member for Kiriwina-Goodenough, Douglas Tomuresia, has been appointed as the new People’s Progress Party leader.
His appointment was formally announced today on the floor of Parliament by Deputy Speaker Mr. Koni Iguan.
“Honorable members, the General Secretary of the People’s Progress Party has informed the Speaker of the National Parliament that, after all due process and formalities required by the Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates Commission, I inform the Parliament that Mr. Douglas Tomuresia, member for Kiriwina-Goodenough and leader of the Opposition, is the Parliamentary leader of the People’s Progress Party, effective as of March 6, 2025,” Deputy Speaker Mr. Iguan announced.
Mr. Tomuresia took over this leadership role from the Late Sir Julius Chan, former Prime Minister and Governor of New Ireland Province, who was the Party leader until his passing earlier this year in January.
