The Moni Plus Port Moresby Vipers delivered a dominant performance in Round 7 of the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup on Saturday, defeating reigning premiers Wamp Nga Mt Hagen Eagles 20-12 in Minj.
Despite a strong showing from the Eagles, who sought to halt the Vipers’ winning streak, the Port Moresby side maintained control, ultimately overwhelming their opponents.
Vipers winger Benjamin Tonny was the show’s star, crossing the try line three times. Fullback Henry Marai also added a try, with halfback Slyder Bulu successfully converting two, sealing a decisive victory on the Eagles’ home turf.
For the Eagles, veteran skipper Henry Wan Noki scored a try from a chip kick by fullback Simeon Tamai, and inside centre Desmond Michael added another converted try.
Eagles forwards Joshua Nani, Jeremiah Ronald, Wari Rex, and Adam Korowa put in a valiant effort to contain the Vipers’ attack, but ultimately, time ran out for the home team.
